Immortals "Immortal" (often, simply, "imm") refers to players who have reached the highest attainable levels in the game. Here, anyone of level 192 or higher is an immortal. Immortals are capable of exceeding the usual game rules, in more drastic and pervasive ways as levels increase; examples range from teleportation and invisibility to mortal sight to creation of objects, removal of a player's privileges (channels, ability to move, or even ability to log in), and ability to promote players to immortality. Since immortals can wreak havoc with game balance, they are (ideally) a carefully-chosen and policed group. An absolute rule of immortal behavior is that no immortal can aid or assist any player without explicit permission from the higher ranks; in other words, please don't ask an immortal to help you kill a mob, gather equipment, etc., or you'll likely be either politely or rudely refused, or referred to this file. The duties of immortals, and even the very reasons for their existence, are topics of continual and heated debate in various MUD forums, and are fraught with misconceptions, poor examples and outrageous hypocrisies. Here are some of the immortals of the Dark Tower: Implementors (level 200):
Aloysius appears as a man of average height with dark hair and eyes. He usually has a shifty demeanor and a sarcastic expression. Though he has been around throughout the ages nearly as long as Thunder, many wonder whether he is a real immortal or just a wandering rogue. He appears to be present at all times though never really around, mentally or physically. Malthio Malthio is the Lord of Shadows, a foil to the great gods of light which so populated the pantheon at the time of his arrival. Although seemingly aligned with the dark and shadowed forces of the universe, Malthio cannot be truly classified as an evil deity, merely a chaotic one - bestowing his blessings or his dark wrath upon lesser beings depending on his mood. Despite being among the gods for so long, Malthio continues to walk among the mortals he ascended from so long ago. To mortal eyes he appears as an obscure figure covered completely in a shimmering silver robe, his hands tucked into his sleeves in front of him. A thick hood obscures all but a few wisps of white hair on his face, enshrouding his visage in darkness. His eyes, however, glow with pure white energy when he is sufficiently excited, angered, or in the middle focusing great energy. Malthio chooses to serve as a force of entropy in the universe, often forcibly entering into conflict for no other reason to see what effect his presence will have. Although his actions may seem erratic to the ignorant viewer, his raw power makes him too great a being to be questioned. Most consider Malthio to have forsaken these realms for others, though rumors hint of his return. ThunderThunder leads the Theran pantheon and wields the great hammer Mjollnir. He has dark blond hair and a smouldering look in his eyes. On his head is a winged helmet of the early warrior tribes of Midgaard. Thunder has been around longer than any known immortal and is said to have first created the world in the first age. Rumors talk of his journey to frozen Niphel, after which his presence has been scarce, though mortals and immortals alike revere him as the Founder. Creators (level 199):
The lord of wisdom is quick to bring down his hammer and sword on those unworthy. He has no tolerance for ignorance, nor will he stand for injustice. His goal is to bring enlightenment to the mortal realm. He generally appears in full armor, rich and ornate. His outstretched wings appear as fire surrounding his body. He lives atop a tower with his concubines and close friends, as well as his pet Dranik, the dark fox. It is said his wisdom transcends time and space, as some of his furnishings not even have been invented as of yet. Legions known him as the Royal Enforcer of Athron. Rilley has chronicled and built much in these realms, though he is yet another immortal whose presence is rarely felt, perhaps having ventured to other realms. Tartaros Dlar Deities (level 197):
Mithras' long golden hair frames a tanned face and shining aquamarine eyes that seem to be his most dominant features. These eyes can see to the depths of your soul. Upon his brow lies a golden crown seemingly made of solid light. Its white goldness is comparable only to the sun on a hot summer day. He greatly enjoys war, sometimes riding in much too brashly. However, his enthusiasm is matched only by his bravery and valor in the field of battle. He prizes valor and honor and a fair fight over all. He has been known to congratulate rivals on a well-thought-out strategy, although he has never admitted to it. Mithras departed these realms around the same time as Malthio, though he may also return. Retired Implementors:
